Every internship we offer is designed as an Experiential Learning Internship. The sole purpose is gaining experience and learning.
The reason for this practice is its alignment with our philosophy that one must learn-to-earn, not the other way around. We also do not believe it is a true depiction of the marketplace.
Being a business and financial advisory firm comes with a large responsibility to meet the demands of the marketplace. So when it comes to our work, we create a distinction from most firms by setting a standard ensuring our Associates have bore the responsibilities of owning and operating with the principles, processes, and practices, they are advising other companies on. This equates to a minimum of 30,000 hours of experience (15 years of full-time work) to become a Junior Consultant.
We are aware this is completely out of reach for most recent college graduates to obtain. Which is why we focus on on an Education-First model which removes the expectations of high-performance skillsets, and allows our firm the opportunity to develop the competency, capability and capacity of our Junior Associates for up to two years.
Unlike most internships, Marq Neasman is not focused on what you can bring to us, instead we are focused on contributing to your skillset today, so you can be a value to our organization tomorrow. Our firm functions as a teaching laboratory, the work our Junior Associates do is primarily a catalyst for their learning, not a service to the firm.
Aside from the benefit of being able to put our firm's name on your resume, you will benefit from real skills that 10x the opportunity you get from a standard internship that may provide a stipend. Review our Experiential Learning Model below:
This program is designed as an intensive educational practicum. The primary beneficiary of this relationship is the Junior Associate, who receives expert training, industry-standard certifications, and a portfolio of work that exceeds traditional classroom capabilities. The firm’s role is that of a mentor and educator, providing a platform for the Junior Associate to apply theoretical knowledge to high-stakes advisory environments.
Question...Would you pay an amateur to fix your taxes, teeth, or toilet? Certainly not!
The risk is too high, and it could cost thousands of dollars in money, days of time, not to mention risking livelihood. We believe the same goes for our industry where the stakes are high and the environment can be very unforgiving. This is also why we believe, "Pros Get Paid".
The slogan "Pros Get Paid" is a motto we live by that echoes the sentiment of the marketplace. It is insinuating that the marketplace does not compensate incompetence. For clarity, we consider a Pro one of two individuals:
A Professional is someone that supersedes 80% of the world in a given role. They have the skills, experience, clientele, and network to make a living in the industry.
A Producer is an Amateur, not a Professional. They have developed skills well enough to help them accomplish tasks and meet objectives, and get results.
We do not expect a Junior Associate to have the capability to deliver as a Professional or Producer, which is why we focus on education. However, in the event an intern believes they are capable of meeting the demands of an Associate, we encourage them to apply for a career role. In addition, we have incorporated a performance-based compensation model into every internship cohort. So in the event an intern displays the capabilities to produce real-world results they will be paid accordingly.
Important Notice:
Please note that as per the Federal Labor Standards Act, unpaid interns may work a maximum of 25 hours per week.
How many hours are expected during internships?
We will never require more than twenty-five (25) hours per week for any internship. On average our interns will spend ten (10) hours a week in total.
Are internships paid?
Yes, we have incorporated a performance-based compensation model into every internship cohort. So in the event an intern displays the capabilities to produce real-world results they will be paid accordingly. Our Experiential Learning Internships do not provide hourly pay for Junior Associates, because we do not subscribe to the notion of paying people to teach them. We pay for productivity.
Do your internships lead to part-time or full-time roles?
Yes, every Junior Associate that joins our firm is being assessed to determine if they are suitable for part-time or full-time opportunities.
Do you provide any professional development
Yes, the nature of an Experiential Learning Internship is to provide real hands-on, project-based, professional opportunities for our Junior Associates (JAs) to grow and develop their skills. In addition, we provide them access to in-demand certifications through our partnership with LinkedIn.
How does the internship work?
You will meet with your department lead through out the week and work on the designated project the cohort has been assigned.
How many people are typically inside of a cohort?
A cohort will never have more than seven (7) Junior Associates inside of it.
How long does an internship last?
An internship can last from 3-24 months, depending on the Junior Associate's desire to learn, and whether the firm's Advisory Board grants approval. Each Junior Associate recommits after every quarter of the year.
How do you keep track of a Junior Associate's progress?
Each Junior Associate receives workflow chart with Standard Operating Procedures, Key Performance Indicators, and Objectives & Key Results. While they are not required to hit any of these metrics they can see what the expectations are of an associate. We also provide access to our proprietary High-Performance Leadership tools for further assessment.
